SCARCE U.S. Model 1803 FLINTLOCK by HARPERS FERRY War of 1812 .58 Antique First Military Flintlock “Rifle” Dated “1814” with BULLET MOLD!
Description: SCARCE U.S. Model 1803 FLINTLOCK by HARPERS FERRY War of 1812 .58 Antique First Military Flintlock “Rifle” Dated “1814” with BULLET MOLD! Here we present an antique U.S. Harpers Ferry Model 1803 Flintlock Musket, manufactured in 1814 in Harpers Ferry, Virginia. While the Harpers Ferry Model 1795 became America’s first smoothbore, the Model 1803 became the country’s first standardized “rifle” design. The Model 1803 was adopted by both the Army and Marines, who appreciated the accuracy of this rifled model. Production spanned from 1803 through 1819 with a total of 19,726 units produced. The Model 1803 saw combat service in the War of 1812 and stood the test of time when it was featured once again in the Mexican-American War. Some even remained in play at the beginning of the American Civil War, when just about any firearm was placed into service due to shortages on both sides. Though it was never confirmed, and sources disagree, many believed that the Model 1803 was featured in the famous Lewis and Clark Expedition from 1804 through 1806. This rifle is a true survivor that remains in its original flintlock format. The lock is marked with the “US” shield on the “Eagle” / HARPERS FERRY / 1814”. This musket was bored out to .58 caliber with a smooth bore, probably around the time of the American Civil War as .58 caliber ball and Minié balls were the standard of the time. Interest that it retains its original flintlock mechanism and was not also converted to percussion. There is every likelihood that this was in Confederate use during the war. Also included is a .58 caliber Minie ball bullet mold and a smaller cherry cutter for the ball mold. The overall condition is Fair to Good. The action is strong. The bore is dark and dusty with age. The markings are legible. The stock is broken around the lock and there is movement. This would make a fantastic piece on display or as a restoration project! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 32-3/4 inches. Caliber: .58 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2995 #191055 SOLD Antique: Yes |
