Description: WILD WEST Era Antique MARLIN-BALLARD .32 Long Single Shot FRONTIER Rifle Rifle in .32 Long Caliber with Octagonal Barrel Here we present an antique J.M. Marlin Ballard No. 3 Rifle in .32 caliber, made circa 1876-1891 in New Haven, Connecticut. The Ballard rifle is a single shot breechloading rifle with a falling block action. The internal components are contained in the breech block protect them from fouling and dirt. Marlin-Ballard rifles featured automatic extractors. Some models had double set triggers, which is considered by riflemen of the time to be of superior quality. Several variants included a reversible firing pin, so that the user could fire either rimfire or centerfire cartridges. The Ballard design was utilized during the Civil War and retained following the conflict as it was simple and rugged. Though Winchester Model 1866s and 1873s were the latest and greatest in firepower, the Ballard was the longarm of many during this period characterized by conflict and westward expansion. Strong action. The bore is dark. The buttstock is in good shape, but there is wiggle at the frame. Some wood splitting is present on the left side. Markings are legible.
