Schuetzen Rifle Alois Mogele System-Aydt 32-40 Engraved & Embellished
Description: We’ve run out of superlative words to describe the firearms in this collection; now they’re repeating. This is another Exquisitely Engraved, Stocked, and Furnished Rifle – an Original Alois Mogele Schuetzen Rifle in an American Caliber: 32-40. It is possible, and we cannot say for certain, that this rifle/barrel was rechambered from a European 8 mm caliber. We will let the photos speak for themselves with regard to features and condition – which is well used; not abused or damaged in any way; and complete, including the Windage and Elevation-Adjustable Pinhole Rear Sight that sits in a locking-screw-equipped Square Receptacle on the Receiver’s Upper Tang. A Lyman 17 (or 17A) Front Sight is attached to a spring-loaded base that appears to be removable (we have not tried). Needless to day, the Lyman 17 probably was added in the US. Markings include: “ORIGINAL / SYST.-AYDT / 14891” – which may be a serial number as well as the Aydt - Patent mark on the left side of the swinging block (://imfdb/wiki/Aydt_Rifle); various markings look like PROOF MARKS on the right side of the swinging block and on the front-right-upper edge of the receiver (just behind the receiver ring); “ROCHLING SPECIAL” and “32 – 40” on left side barrel flats, one above the other; “ALOIS MOGELE, MANNHEIM” on the top, filigree-matted, barrel flat. The top barrel flat has a raised, beveled rib that measures 0.65” (16.5 mm) wide; it appears to be for attachment of a scope base or rings. The highly-decorated (on the top flat) barrel measures just under 32-Inches long x just under 7/8-inches across the flats. It also has a decorative, engraved ring just ahead of the receiver. The bore looks very well cared-for with sharp rifling to the naked eye under flashlight illumination. Every part is fully operational to dry-fire testing: the action, sights, double-set triggers and the spring-loaded/scissors-like gadget on the bottom edge of the buttstock (with a button handle that, at first, looks like a sling swivel stud). We speculate this may be a kind of scissors for cutting paper bullet-wrap patches in the days when one case (or a few) were reloaded repeatedly during a schuetzenfest. This rifle is priced to sell, and can be had for a price comparable to lesser quality replicas. It has numerous little scratches and blemishes that do not affect function or detract from its beauty. Condition is best judged by the photos.
