c1880 mfr. Antique EVANS “NEW MODEL” .44 Lever Action REPEATING Rifle
“EVANS SPORTING RIFLE”
Description: c1880 mfr. Antique EVANS “NEW MODEL” .44 Lever Action REPEATING Rifle “EVANS SPORTING RIFLE” Here we present an antique Evans New Model Rifle produced by the Evans Repeating Rifle Company of Mechanics Falls, Maine. This example has “EVANS SPORTING RIFLE” stamped on top of the barrel. According to Flayderman, examples marked as such are believed to have been assembled from leftover parts sometime post-1879 by E.G. Ridout & Company of New York or G.W. Turner & Ross of Boston after the Evans company entered bankruptcy. On the original rifles that were produced between 1877 and 1879, they are frequently referred to as “one of the most novel repeating rifles of the 19th century”, with the majority of the .44 caliber centerfire rifles being manufactured between 1877 and 1879, with a total of 12,200 Evans rifles and carbines made. The New Model rifle and carbine, which is not serialized, utilized a revolving type magazine with a full capacity of 28, .44 caliber metallic rounds loaded through the butt of the 30” long round barrel. The hammer is mounted on the underside of the frame, just ahead of the breech lever and was manually cocked. The frame is rounded at the top and has no cut outs on the side. The forend fits square to the receiver front while the dust cover sits over the loading aperture. The Evans repeating rifle enjoys the distinction of being the only mass produced firearm ever attempted in the state of Maine. It also holds the greatest capacity of any repeating rifle ever produced and marketed in the United States. The overall condition is very good. Modestly refinished. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with strong rifling. The stock shows use and remains solid. The tip of the fore stock has a hole likely added to hold a sling swivel. There is a short split forward of this hole. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 30 inches. Caliber: .44 Evans Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2800 #244550 SOLD Antique: Yes |
