Antique MARLIN BALLARD No. 5 PACIFIC .40-63 Falling Block Rifle Octagonal Barrel Powerful 1880s Single Shot Rifle
Description: Antique MARLIN BALLARD No. 5 PACIFIC .40-63 Falling Block Rifle Octagonal Barrel Powerful 1880s Single Shot Rifle Here we present an antique J.M. Marlin Ballard No. 5 Pacific Single Shot Falling Block Rifle. Ballard was a popular name in guns during the mid-to-late nineteenth century, beginning with the American Civil War and ending after many successful years after Marlin acquired the design, name, and patents. The Ballard design that was utilized during the Civil War proved simple and rugged. Under Marlin Firearms Co., of New Haven, Connecticut, their basic configurations offered such a large variety of sights, stocks, levers, and barrels that they came close to being custom made guns. Though Winchester Model 1866s and 1873s were the latest and greatest in repeaters, the Ballard was the powerful, single shot longarm of many during this period characterized by conflict and westward expansion. The Number 5 Pacific was manufactured from 1876 to 1891 in a variety of calibers, none smaller than .38-55 according to catalogs of the period. Distinctive features of the No. 5 Pacific Rifle include a cleaning rod mounted under the barrel, double set triggers and a lever with a loop at the end. They were also known for accuracy and featured in certain long-range precision shooting competitions such as Creedmoor on Long Island in New York. The overall condition is very good. Patina throughout. The action is excellent. The set trigger does not have to be utilized to fire the gun but does make the trigger extremely light and may need some adjustment. The bore is bright with strong rifling. The stock shows use and remains solid throughout. The fore stock has a split at the top front right corner and a stable repaired split underneath. Cleaning rod absent. A tang mounted rear sight has been added. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 29-3/4 inches. Caliber: .40-63 Ballard Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
