This unusual high quality single shot bolt action centerfire rifle was made by Johann Kalezky of Vienna. He is known for fine sporting rifles, shotguns, and drillings. This rifle is approx. 35 7/8"" in length. The 19"" octagon 30 caliber (of undetermined centerfire caliber) barrel has a good bore with strong rapid twist rifling with areas of pitting. The top of the barrel is marked HANS v. LIDL JSCHL. It has an iron blade front sight and standing notch rear sight. There is also a moderately elaborate tang sight which has had some repairs. All the metal has a smooth brown patina. The receiver, lock plate, butt plate tang, trigger guard, side plate, and hammer are engraved. The engraving is moderate relief and of high quality. The lock plate is marked J KALEZKY in WIEN. The side plate has two facing dog faces (a ""show"" or ""fold""). The bolt has a short handle which is raised, after the hammer is cocked, to load and extract the cartridge. The hammer strikes the firing pin tab in the bolt when the bolt is in firing position. The adjustable double set triggers function correctly. There are two sling swivels, one on the bottom of the barrel, and the other on the bottom of the stock. The stock is very good with moderately worn checkering at the wrist and forend, a bone fore end tip, cheekpiece, and moderate overall wear. There is a small stable age crack from the hammer to the action. The bottom of the forend has a silver shield shaped escutcheon with a crown over D. The number 29 is on the bottom of the stock just forward of the sling swivel. The action functions correctly. Be the only one on your block to own a nicely engraved, bolt action, external hammer Austrian hunting rifle! With a little work, you could make it look even better.
