VERY RARE 1 of 100 J. BAKER CONTRACT US Model 1816 FLINTLOCK Musket Antique PHILADELPHIA, PA Made Musket 1837
Description: VERY RARE 1 of 100 J. BAKER CONTRACT US Model 1816 FLINTLOCK Musket Antique PHILADELPHIA, PA Made Musket 1837 Here we present an antique J. Baker U.S. Contract Model 1816 Flintlock Musket, manufactured by Baker in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1837. This large, Civil War era smooth bore musket was still getting the job done 24 years after its manufacture. The Model 1816 U.S. Flintlock Musket was made at both the Springfield Armory (325,000) and the Harper’s Ferry Armory (350,000). Additionally, more than a dozen contractors also made the Model 1816 Muskets during its production years, with J. Baker being one of them. Though these contractors added 146,000 muskets, Baker was only responsible for 100 of them after the U.S. government signed a contract with them in 1837. There were three different styles of the M1816 that were developed, with those being Types I, II, and III. With only 100 total produced, this is an extremely rare contract U.S. martial musket! These were some of the most abundant weapons available to both sides, being in the hands of the state militias, in the first days of the American Civil War. This musket is symbolic for the westward expansion of the country throughout the first half of the 19th century. The M1816 Springfield saw service in the Texan Revolution including the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. After the independence of Texas, the 1816 musket was chosen as the first standard musket of the Texan Army in 1839. The overall condition is good. The action is excellent and it remains in original flintlock configuration. The bore is smooth and dim. The stock flat shows a cartouche remnant. The stock has a small repair behind the lock inlet and several well-performed grafts throughout the forestock; solid overall. A great example of a rare musket of which only a few likely remain! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 42 inches. Caliber: .69 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
