CIVIL WAR French Arsenal Made M1829/61 Perc. Conversion ARTILLERY MUSKETOON Scarce Percussion Conversion from Flintlock
Description: CIVIL WAR French Arsenal Made M1829/61 Perc. Conversion ARTILLERY MUSKETOON Scarce Percussion Conversion from Flintlock Here we present an antique Civil War Era 1861 Dated French Model 1829/61 Artillery Musketoon, made at the Chatellerault Arsenal in Chatellerault, France circa the 1830s. This example would have started out life and converted later in life. These artillery carbines were modeled after the Model 1822 Cavalry Carbine and intended as replacements for the artillery crew who would possibly be riding on the cannon carriages. The barrel was made slightly longer and standard sling swivels replaced the saddle ring bars and the ramrod was fitted into the stock. Originally a smoothbore flintlock, these guns underwent a series of changes starting somewhere around 1840 with the adoption of the percussion firing system. As dated on the barrel, this example was converted to percussion circa 1861. This short, handy and large-bore musketoon would have been at home in the hands of an artilleryman and possibly even cavalry. It features a .72 caliber rifled bore, and a barrel length of 23-3/4 inches. The lock is marked “Mre. Impale. de Chatellerault”. The right side of the barrel is marked “C. 1861” and “MI”. There looks what looks like regimental marking along with numerous inspection marks throughout. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. Solid stock with an average amount of handling. “1861” dated. Legible markings. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 23-3/4 inches. Caliber: .71 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1800 #230118 SOLD Antique: Yes |
