1833 Dated Massachusetts Contract Musket with Sling
Description: Antique WHITNEY ARMS Model 1816 .69 Caliber c1851 Rare CONVERSION Musket 1833 Dated Massachusetts Contract Musket with Sling Here we present an antique Whitney Arms Co. Model 1816 Massachusetts Militia Musket, manufactured circa 1833 in New Haven, Connecticut. Philos & Eli Whitney Blake were the nephews of Eli Whitney Sr. and were the trustees of the Whitney Armory from 1823 until Eli Whitney Jr. coming of age in 1842. These muskets started out life as flintlocks, but with advances in technology, many of these muskets were updated to the percussion firing system, as was this one, which was more reliable. This example features an “1833” dated lock and tang, and the “sea fencible” type heavy brass buttplate, of which about 300 are believed to have been converted circa 1851. The left side of the barrel is marked with proof and acceptance markings along with the initials of inspector Luther Sage and “MS”, which is a Massachusetts State militia marking. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. Solid stock with an average amount of wear. Two cartouches can be seen, one on the left side of the wrist, and the other atop the comb. The sling is in good shape. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 42 inches. Caliber: .69 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
