19th Century BAVARIAN BELLOWS Crank Handle 7.5mm AIR GUN with Silver Inlays Primarily Used for INDOOR TARGET SHOOTING
Description: 19th Century BAVARIAN BELLOWS Crank Handle 7.5mm AIR GUN with Silver Inlays Primarily Used for INDOOR TARGET SHOOTING Here we present an antique Bavarian Bellows Crank Handle Air Gun, made circa the late 1700s to mid-1800s in Burghausen. The maker signed his initials in silver on the top of the barrel: “F~H~F in Burghausen”. The stock is also carved with floral designs and tipped in horn. Brass hardware throughout. This one has a barrel mounted front and rear sight and there is an aperture in the stock where a lollipop peep sight once was. These guns were used primarily for hunting and indoor target shooting. Their basic feature is a conical bellows hidden in the hollowed out wooden buttstock. Air guns represent the oldest pneumatic technology. The oldest existing mechanical air gun dates back to about 1580 and is in the Livrustkammaren Museum in Stockholm. This is approximately what most historians recognize as the beginning of the modern air gun. Throughout 17th to 19th century, air guns in .30 to .51 calibers were used to hunt big game, deer and wild boar. These air rifles were charged using a pump to fill an air reservoir and gave velocities from 650 to 1,000 ft/s. They were also used in warfare, the most recognized example being the Girandoni air rifle. The overall condition is good. Original finish. The rear trigger must be set to operate, but the trigger only sets very intermittently. The billows crank turns and has strong spring tension, but we did not fully try to charge and fire this piece. The bore is shiny bright and smooth. The stock is in good condition and solid throughout. This one used to have more of a trigger guard, which is absent. The barrel does tip but is very tight. Overall, a nice piece of craftsmanship from Bavaria. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 33-1/8 inches. Caliber: 7.5mm Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
