Here we present an antique Germanic Jaeger Rifle, made in the German states circa the early-19th Century. This rifle is a beauty and it features all the hallmarks of a Jager including the wooden slab sliding patchbox, generous cheek rest, carved wooden trigger guard, full length stock and sling mounts. Octagonal barrel. Nice open sights. This is the epitome of a practical mountain rifle and is full-blooded German in its aesthetic.
The barrel is 33-5/8 inches long and octagonal with a rifled .54 caliber bore. The front sight is a fine blade with a two-leaf rear adjustable sight behind. This is a good set up for shooting short to medium ranges as would be useful for hunting or even combat, and that is just what this rifle would have been for: putting food on the table and defending the homestead in the early-19th Century German states.
The top of the barrel is marked with a rooster inside an oval. There is a tag near the toe of the stock that reads “Glaser/Eberle” in nice script handwriting.
The overall condition is Good. Nice, well-rifled bore. The action remains strong with excellent double set triggers. There is a split along the grain that goes from the cheek rest to the bottom of the butt stock. This is not a result of an impact but rather a separation that occurred along the grain which is stable and does not move. This is an excellent piece of German heritage!
Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
Barrel is 33-5/8 inches.
Caliber: .54 Percussion
Overall condition as seen in photos.
