Description:
An interesting big bore .54 cal, with a 40 1/2” octagon barrel with a moderately oxidized bore showing good rifling throughout. The barrel and lock of this rifle have mostly toned to a dark brown patina showing some scattered old oxidation staining and the expected moderate erosion around the drum and nipple at the breech. The top barrel flat shows the name “Brun” in script and remnants of a rather long name precedes this but is indecipherable. The lockplate shows some simple light foliate embellishments and is marked “LONDON / WARRANTED” in the center. The rifle is equipped with brass hardware including nosecap, dual faceted ramrod thimbles with tailpipe, single spur triggerguard, buttplate with toeplate and patchbox with simple pierced foliate extension. The brass has toned to a mix of mild ocher and goldenrod showing some scattered light dings and light embellishments along the patchbox and the patchbox release button is housed in the toeplate. The stock appears to be butternut or something similar and shows a heavy black finish with some areas of thinning along the forend. The stock rates good masked by the dark finish. An antique hickory ramrod with iron worm end is present and the rifle is sighted with a simple fixed sporting rear and silver blade front sight. The lock remains functional.
