excellent Pattern 1856 Cavalry Carbine of type used by Union and Confederate troops in the Civil War
Description: Excellent condition! We are not Enfield experts but it appears to be a British Military gun rather than an American civil war gun, likely having come through British troops in Canada. Nevertheless, this model was used in the Civil War by both Union and Confederate troops and it would make an excellent type example for a Civil War collection in an attractive condition and at an attractive price you couldn’t find in a Civil War attributed example. According to Pritchard, Jr. and Huey in The English Connection, at page 176, [i]n summary, it appears that over 10,000 of these [Pattern 1856] cavalry carbines were purchased by the government and imported during the [Civil] war. A few were purchased in the early months but most of them entered the Confederacy in the latter stages of the war.” Excellent bore. SOLD Antique: Yes Rifle Caliber: .58 |
