Civil War Era French Arsenal M1829 Rifled Musketoon Carbine
Description: I am offering a Civil War Era French M1829 Musketoon. The musketoon was made at the French Arsenal of St. Etienne as shown on the lockplate. "Mdle 1829" appears on the breech. There are also various arsenal markings on other parts. The musketoon is 38" long overall with a 23 3/4" barrel. The bore is lightly rifled and is around a .73 caliber. There is a long range flip sight mounted on it This is the same model of musketoon that appears on page 175 of the "Firearms from Europe" book as well as page 264 of Edwards "Civil War Guns" book. The metal has a pleasant brown patina with a little roughness around the breech area and muzzle areas. The stock is in very good condition with only a small amount of burnout in back of the bolster. The hammer holds on the first cock and the second cock but sometimes it will slip and the hammer will fall on the second cock without squeezing the trigger. It looks like the bayonet bar/stud may have come off at one time and was epoxied back on. The ramrod is a repro and is mainly for looks as it is very short. SOLD Antique: Yes |
