antique Rifle marked S Hawken
Description: Title: S. Hawken Marked 40 caliber Plains Rifle Specs added 5-18-21 Description: Here is a really nice, fully functional antique plains rifle from the mid-1800s. In looking it over I cleared some of the patina in front of the rear sight and found it signed "S. Hawken St. Louis". There is no Provence for this rifle, so I do not know of its authenticity therefore I am pricing to reflect this. There are well-done repairs and replacements to the wood and metal. This is a very functional rifle . If anyone is interested I have test-fired , and it does what it is supposed to do. . The lock works perfectly and will hold on half-cock. It has an octagon, swamped 32" barrel in approximately .40 caliber, double set triggers, and comes with old ramrod which looks to be hickory. The stock is walnut with a few well-done repairs and less than the usual dents and damage. Original sights with silver blade front sight. Brass furniture with pewter end cap. The barrel has a hook breech with a wedge to fasten the barrel to the stock. Very handy for removing the barrel to clean. The butt plate has an old crack that is period repaired with an additional screw .. The bore is dark and has decent rifling for the age and is very shootable. This rifle may well be an antique that was re breeched, properly, and may have been marked S Hawken back in the early 1960s. Breech plug is of that style.. Is a cool ol gun, just use your best judgement . It does have the lines of a Squirrel rifle, and handles well. bore is dark and rough, but original Specs are: OAL 48" LOP 13 3/4' DROP 3' BARREL 31" breech .914 mid .913 muzzle 1.025 6 wide lands 6 narrow grooves.twist looks lie 1-48? could stand a freshing. weight 8lbs I ship UPS or Fedex. Post office unreliable. USPS money orders only please. I offer a 3 day inspection period and will accept this rifle returned for any reason as long as it is returned undamaged, unfired, and unaltered and refund the price you paid. Any charges for return shipping and insurance is the responsibility of the customer. .I welcome all comments and feedback. Thanks for looking. Price: $1,500.00 plus 150.00 packing and shipping ups or fedex, insured USPS money orders SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes |
