Antique BRITISH 1852 Dated TOWER Pattern 1842 .75 Caliber RIFLED Musket
Mid-19th Century English Military Musket
Description: Antique BRITISH 1852 Dated TOWER Pattern 1842 .75 Caliber RIFLED Musket Mid-19th Century English Military Musket Here we present an antique Tower Pattern 1842 Percussion Musket, made circa 1852. This musket was based on the British Brown Bess flintlock musket that was in previous use for decades. Muskets such as this would have served in the British Military along with the East India Company in an official capacity over the next several decades of the 19th Century. It is very likely that it was witness to the Indian Mutiny in 1857. This musket shows signs of use well after it was made obsolete. The Brown Bess series of flintlock muskets had been the iconic shoulder arm of British military power for over 100 years when the development of the percussion lock made them obsolete. As early as 1834, the Ordinance Board began looking for a percussion musket to replace the old flintlocks, and in 1839 the Tower of London Armory began converting the existing flintlocks to the new percussion system. In October 1841, a fire swept through the Tower, destroying thousands of muskets there for conversion. This caused a shortage of shoulder arms, and the Pattern 1842 Musket was rushed into production. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. Well-used stock, dents and dings. The ramrod is absent. The markings are not legible. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 39 inches. Caliber: .75 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
