This unmarked Allen single shot muzzle-loading sidehammer percussion rifle was made circa mid-184s to the early 1860s. Only a few hundred are estimated to have been made. The overall length is approx. 51.25"". The linger than normal 35"" octagon 36 caliber barrel has an excellent bright bore with strong rifling. The barrel measures 1"" from flat to flat. It retains 90%+ of its original brown finish. It features a German silver blade front and fixed notch rear sight. The barrel is marked with the serial number, 1755, on the left oblique flat and a mostly unreadable retailer's stamp on the right oblique flat. What can be seen is ""ZY & CO."", the remainder missing due to an extremely light stamp. The case hardened frame has traces remaining and blue on the top. It has scroll engraving on the sides, top, bolster, and hammer. The iron trigger guard and butt plate have a smooth brown finish. The butt stock is fine with no chips or cracks, light wear, and most of its original finish. It features a scroll engraved patchbox with a round door. The brass tipped ramrod is present. The double set trigger action functions correctly. The longer than usual barrel, engraving, and patchbox coupled with its overall fine condition make this Allen percussion rifle especially desirable. Don't miss it!
