SCARCE British BAKER Flintlock Rifle Antique WAR OF 1812 NAPOLEONIC WARS
TOWER Marked with King George Cipher
Description: SCARCE British BAKER Flintlock Rifle Antique WAR OF 1812 NAPOLEONIC WARS TOWER Marked with King George Cipher Here we present an antique British Flintlock Baker Rifle, made in the early 1800s in London, England. This rifle has attributes of both earlier and later English infantry rifles, popularly known as Baker rifles, and appears to have been an 1800-1810 era Baker rifle that was updated during its service life to the Pattern 1800/1815. Traces of the original lug for a sword bayonet are visible at the forend cap. D.W. Bailey in British Military Longarms 1815-1865 estimates no more than 2,000 of the earlier Baker pattern rifles were converted to this pattern around 1815-1823. The Baker rifle was first produced in 1800 by Ezekiel Baker, a master gunsmith from Whitechapel. The Baker rifle, officially known as the Pattern 1800 Infantry Rifle, was a flintlock rifle used by the rifle regiments of the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars. It was the first British-made rifle that the British armed forces issued as a standard weapon for all line companies in a regiment. The Pattern 1776 Infantry rifle had been issued on a limited basis of 10 per regiment to units serving in the American War of Independence. The British Army was still issuing the infantry rifle in the 1830s. This example is marked “LACY & Co” on the stock. John George Lacy was an English London based Gunsmith first recorded as being in business between 1811-1815. In 1815 he went into partnership with David William Witton and they traded as Lacy & Co until 1833. It is likely that this is the gunmaker who did the “1800/1815” update to the rifle. The overall condition is very good. Original patina throughout. The action is excellent. The bore is in very good condition with strong rifling. There are two repairs, both located on the fore stock. One just above the rear ramrod tube and one from the very rearmost portion of the ramrod channel to just ahead of the front lock screw head. Inspection markings throughout. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 30-3/8 inches. Caliber: .65 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
