RARE Estate find Whitney Pre-1812 .69 Cal. Flintlock Musket
Description: RARE Estate find Whitney Pre-1812 .69 Cal. Flintlock Musket Offered here for sale is a superb opportunity for the collector/restore to acquire a very scarce collectible U.S. musket. Found in an estate in New Haven, Connecticut this early flintlock musket is a “pre-1812” 2nd model Whitney musket with lockplate adorned with the simple “N.Haven” (Whitney banner). The .69 caliber musket is all original and complete save for its lack of flintlock hammer. The musket has NOT been converted and needs only an original flintlock hammer to complete. The musket has a couple of cracks in butt which can be attended to but are of the period and can be displayed “as is”. The wood otherwise is sound and the barrel has a smooth greyish patina. The top of the wrist has a circular marking which may have indicated a unit association or may have been an old hickory peg insert to strengthen the stock. There is no evidence of any break or split. The lockplate is excellent with sharp markings. The rifle displays very well as untouched as is but certainly with some work and effort the gun may be restored fully to its original length and splendor. NOTE: WHILE THERE ARE REPRODUCTION HAMMERS AVAILABLE FOR SALE WE FEEL IT APPROPRIATE TO HAVE AN ORIGINAL OBTAINED TO RESTORE.
