Antique Silver Mounted Moroccan Tetuan Snaphaunce Musket
At offer is a fine example of a beautiful early 19th Century silver-mounted Moroccan Tetuan Snaphaunce Musket or rifle. It is approximately 70" overall and has a fine partially fluted barrel in approximately .60 caliber smoothbore; round front section with silver fore-sight framed by engraved scrollwork; faceted rear section with fixed rear sight and engraved with scrollwork set with silver panels; barrel secured by six engraved brass barrel bands. The engraved lock is not working but is of fine quality with silver inlays. Full stock, the wide, flared butt with wide engaved bone buttplate;
extensive silver wire inlay at butt, wrist, counter screws and framing the barrel tang; forward of the lock is what appears to be an inscription in silver wire. It retains what looks to be the original ramrod.
There is some wood missing on the butt and a couple of cracks. The leather has left dark staining that makes it appear some of the wood has been repaired or replaced but it has not. There are a couple of slivers of wood missing from the forward portion of the stock. This is a beautiful piece and the condition is best stated by the photos.
