Description: Antique BELGIAN/AUSTRIAN Lorenz .58 Caliber FLINTLOCK Musket Smoothbore With an 1857 Dated Lock Here we present an antique Austrian Lorenz Musket, originally made in 1857, converted to flintlock in Liege, Belgium sometime later. This musket was made in Austria for military service. Many guns like this were sold to combatants of the American Civil War. Others, like this one, had a different purpose. Makers in Liege, Belgium purchased obsolescent surplus guns such as this and converted them to flintlock for sale to African peoples. Such would be useful and relatively inexpensive while still granting the colonizers a comfortable lead technologically in case of any hostilities. The overall condition is good. The action is functional—it only has a full-cock notch. The bore is smooth and dim. The stock remains solid. The rear barrel band spring is absent. Own the original!
