18th CENTURY Antique FLINTLOCK Musket Fowler 60 Caliber American Smoothbore Original Flintlock Full-Stock Militia Fusil .60 cal
Description: 18th CENTURY Antique FLINTLOCK Musket Fowler 60 Caliber American Smoothbore Original Flintlock Full-Stock Militia Fusil .60 cal Here we present an antique Flintlock Smoothbore Musket, made circa the late-18th Century. This musket was based on the British “Brown Bess” military musket, using a pinned barrel to a full-length stock. This one has a brass butt plate with a lightly engraved top tang, thumb/initial plate, ramrod tubes, engraved side plate, and trigger guard. The bore is smooth (not rifled) and .60 caliber. The ramrod is not the original, which was likely broken or lost somehow, but it is a period replacement that was made by someone who was handy but not super polished as a blacksmith—at least in a gunsmith’s capacity. The lock has a small design at the tail of the lock that looks like an animal’s head. The center of the lock appears to be marked “WA” before fading out. The barrel does not have any British proof marks and was likely indigenously made in North America. This is the very kind of musket that really anyone would have been using in North America in the 1700s whether pioneer or settler, farmer or trapper, European or Native. Whether you are looking for a representative piece from the French and Indian War, the Revolutionary War, or the colonial period in general, this is an excellent piece. The overall condition is good. Original patina throughout. The action is functional though a bit anemic. The bore is smooth and untouched, quite dusty. There is a front sight bead but a shallow dovetail at the rear is empty of what would have been a very simple V notch. The stock is in good shape. There is a section at the muzzle end of the forearm about 7” in length that has been grafted/repaired. It is well-done and not noticeable unless looked for. The ramrod is a period replacement and is a neat piece of workmanship itself. A very nice 18th Century American smoothbore musket! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 45 inches. Overall length 61 inches. Caliber: .60 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
