"Rare Virginia Manufactory Second Model Flintlock Rifle (AL5150)
Description: "Rare Virginia manufactory Second Model Flintlock Rifle. Only about 1,700 were made, circa 1812-1821. The overall length is approximately 54". The 39" octagon .50 caliber barrel has a fine bore with strong rifling. The barrel and lock are bright with areas of staining. The barrel is marked “15" on the top flat. The lock is marked “Virginia" (Vi… is illegible). At the center and “Richmond / 1818" at the tail. The brass furniture is fine. The patch box operates correctly and still has dried grease in it. The stock is very good with issue dents and dings, but no cracks or chips. The lock and stock assembly marks match. This rifle is a well-done reconversion to flint. In addition, an operating double set trigger has been added, and the trigger guard has been modified to accommodate it. The action works correctly with the exception, it does not hold at half cock. Ramrod is a replacement. Many of these rifles were used and destroyed on the early years of the Civil War. This rifle, while modified with the double set trigger system, has a matching lock and stock and is overall a good example of the second model Virginia manufactory rifle.
