DOCUMENTED & ENGRAVED Crank Handle G. FISHER 7.5mm SHOOTING GALLERY Air Gun Primarily Used for INDOOR TARGET SHOOTING/HUNTING
Description: DOCUMENTED & ENGRAVED Crank Handle G. FISHER 7.5mm SHOOTING GALLERY Air Gun Primarily Used for INDOOR TARGET SHOOTING/HUNTING Here we present an antique Documented and Engraved G. Fisher Crank Handle Air Gun, made circa 1855-70 in New York, New York. Air guns represent the oldest pneumatic technology. The oldest existing mechanical air gun dates back to about 1580 and is in the Livrustkammaren Museum in Stockholm. This is approximately what most historians recognize as the beginning of the modern air gun. Throughout 17th to 19th century, air guns in .30 to .51 calibers were used to hunt big game, deer, and wild boar. These air rifles were charged using a pump to fill an air reservoir and gave velocities from 650 to 1,000 ft/s. They were also used in warfare, the most recognized example being the Girandoni air rifle. Air guns of this style were used primarily for indoor target shooting. "Wind guns" had several advantages over conventional firearms including that they were quieter, smokeless, quicker to reload, and they also required less cleaning since they did not require corrosive black powder. This gallery air gun has a swivel breech, octagon barrel chambered in approximately .30 caliber/7.5 mm with a smooth bore, dovetail mounted blade front sight and notch rear sight, and is mounted with a walnut forend and buttstock with a checkered wrist. It functions through the use of hand crank (not included) that is attached to the right side for cocking in order to fill the cylinder reservoir, and upon pulling the trigger the spring loaded piston releases. There are flourishes of scroll pattern engraving on the fittings. This example has "G FISHER/NY" and "WARRANTED" marked on the top barrel flat at the breech. This exact air gun is photographed and described on page 99 of "Blue Book of Airguns, Thirteenth Edition". The overall condition is good. It wears an old refinish. The bore is smooth and bright. Action has not been tested by us. There are several stable splits along the grain on the underside of the stock. Otherwise solid. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 23-3/8 inches. Caliber: 7.5mm Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
