Late-1700s to Early-1800s FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS with LONG FOLDING BAYONET
200+ Year Old COMBAT SHOTGUN
Description: Late-1700s to Early-1800s FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS with LONG FOLDING BAYONET 200+ Year Old COMBAT SHOTGUN Here we present an antique French Flintlock Blunderbuss, made circa the late-1700s to the early-1800s. This is a rather large example with a bayonet that is quite long! The blunderbuss is a firearm with a relatively short, large caliber barrel. They are flared at the muzzle, frequently throughout the entire bore, and used with shot and other projectiles. The blunderbuss is commonly considered to be an early predecessor of the modern day shotgun, with similar military and defensive use. It was effective only at short range, lacking accuracy at long range. The flintlock blunderbuss was the original coach gun, being a short, handy, and devastating weapon at close range. It was capable of firing up to 20 buckshot in front of 120 grains of black powder, according to Spencer Tucker in “Almanac of American Military History, Volume 1”. It was used in many capacities, not the least of which were for Naval boarding or defending vessels, stagecoach and messenger companies, home defense and more. The overall condition is good. Strong action which has been reconverted to flintlock. The bore is in good shape for its age. The stock is solid, contains a period wrist repair that remains stable. Makings on the lock are no longer legible, though the lock does appear to be from one of the French armories. A blunderbuss such as this, is what most people imagine a pirate crew using to commandeer an unsuspecting ship! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 21-1/2 inches. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
