Antique BRASS BARRELED Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS London Proofed WAR of 1812 Era British Made Coach or Ship’s Arm
Description: Antique BRASS BARRELED Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS London Proofed WAR of 1812 Era British Made Coach or Ship’s Arm Here we present an antique British Brass Barreled Flintlock Blunderbuss by Wiggin, made circa the early-1800s in London, England. The blunderbuss is a firearm with a short, large caliber barrel. They are flared at the muzzle, frequently throughout the entire bore, and used with shot and other projectiles. The blunderbuss is commonly considered to be an early predecessor of the modern day shotgun, with similar military and defensive use. It was effective only at short range, lacking accuracy at long range. The flintlock blunderbuss was the original coach gun, being a short, handy and devastating weapon at close range. It was used in many capacities, not the least of which were for Naval boarding or defending vessels, stagecoach and messenger companies, home defense and more. It was capable of firing up to 20 buckshot in front of 120 grains of black powder, according to Spencer Tucker in the “Almanac of American Military History, Volume 1”. The overall condition is very good. The action is excellent. The bore is in good condition and smooth with some verdigris. The stock has a small and stable chip just below the lock and is otherwise very solid. Pre-1813 London proofs on the barrel. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 16-1/4 inches. 1 ½” at the bell of the muzzle. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $4250 #227613 SOLD Antique: Yes |
