Antique British EAST INDIA COMPANY Marked Percussion Musket RAMPANT LION
Percussion Musket w/EAST INDIA COMPANY Lion on Lock
Description: Antique British EAST INDIA COMPANY Marked Percussion Musket RAMPANT LION Percussion Musket w/EAST INDIA COMPANY Lion on Lock Here we present an antique British East India Company marked Percussion Musket, made circa the 1830s-40s. Historical records indicate that the Honorable East India Company made no flintlock muskets after the 1820s and quickly took advantage of the newer and more reliable percussion firing system. In 1840 they began producing the world’s first mass produced percussion muskets. The 39” barrel Brown Bess musket was first developed and adopted by the East India Company in 1771, which was 25 years before the Board of Ordnance in London aligned with them with a 39” Brown Bess musket named the “India Pattern” in 1796. In 1839 the British government officially adopted converted percussion Brown Bess musket, the Pattern 1796-39, but in the Great Fire of the Tower of London in 1841, over 400,000 of these converted muskets were destroyed leaving the British military very low on muskets. The result was to copy the current EIC Percussion Musket, the Model “F”, and name it the “Lovell’s Pattern of 1842. By this time, the East India Company had already developed and refined the .75 bore percussion musket through six models, which were A through F. Models A and B were EIC flintlock muskets converted to percussion. However, the Model F was purpose built percussion military issue. These were built between 1845 and 1851. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. This example sports a solid stock with an average amount of wear. A small space in front of the trigger guard has experienced some chipping. A rampant lion is engraved on the lock. Legible markings. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 37-7/8 inches. Caliber: .78 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1800 #230387 SOLD Antique: Yes |
