17th - 19th Century Samurai Matchlock Musket (Tanegashima)
Description: For your consideration, a beautiful 17th - 19th Century (Edo Period) Tanegashima, or Matchlock Musket. I have had this musket authenticated by an arsenal in Japan, who centered the manufacturing style to the Hino region of Japan. For those that do not know of the Japanese Matchlock, it was the firearm of choice for the Samurai and their foot soldiers during the Edo period. This is truly a piece of history in the evolution of the firearm. DETAILS: - Wooden stock with brass engraving of a bonsai tree by the trigger and decorative floral insets. - Iron octagonal sighted barrel measuring approximately 39 1/2" long. - Bore measures 11.37 mm. - Mathlock mechanism intact, will require adjustment to hold cock. - Wood finish is worn away in some high contact areas, with larger chips missing near the bore. - The barrel exhibits quite a bit of rusting inside and out, showing the weapons agen and use. - Ships with the display stand and brass plate shown in the photographs. - [Price does not include shipping] SOLD Antique: Yes |
