Whitney Navy Revolver in .36 Caliber
Description: Pending Sale. This is a Whitney Navy Model Percussion Revolver in .36, 7-1/2" octagonal barrel, and walnut grips. The serial number is in the 20,000 range which corresponds in close proximity between other Whitney Navies issued in 1864 to the 21st PA Cavalry and US Navy during the Civil War listed in Springfield Research .All the numbers are matching inside and out which include the barrel, cyl pin, loading lever, trigger guard, frame, cylinder, and grips. Overall Condition grades to NRA Antique Good Plus with the metal a smooth silver gray with good markings. There is a hint of original blue on the trigger and under the barrel by the serial number. See Photo. By the way, you'll notice the serial number is weak under the barrel which is common on Whitneys. Unlike Colts and Winchesters, Whitney had a tendency to do their polishing AFTER they stamped their barrels. In Author Sam Maxwell's book on Lever Action Magazine Rifles he points out in the Whitney Kennedy, Burgess, and Morse Chapters that many a collector has made the mistake of thinking that weaker markings on Whitneys indicate a sure sign of refinishing when it is simply the factory procedure of polishing after the markings were applied. The cylinder scenes on these Whitney Navies were incredibly light but this one still has half of its original scene still visible when held in proper lighting. The grips are very good and solid showing a tiny bit of natural shrinkage against the steel straps over the past century and a half. . Excellent mechanics. Fair Plus Bore has decent rifling with some pits that will improve perhaps slightly with some scrubbing. A nice clean looking Whitney that was used in the Civil War. These light grey patina guns display very well on a wall, rack, or display case. Antique, Pre-1898 Percussion. No FFL required. No sales to NYC, DC, NJ, Chicago, or HI. Buyer must be at least 21 years of age and a law abiding citizen. 25.00 Shipping via USPS Priority Mail w/Signature Required in Lower US 48. Sale Pending!
