Etched SCARCE Antique WHITNEY ARMS TWO-TRIGGER Revolver - 1 of 600 MADE
SERIAL NUMBER “B24” Made Between 1852 and 1854
Description: Etched SCARCE Antique WHITNEY ARMS TWO-TRIGGER Revolver - 1 of 600 MADE SERIAL NUMBER “B24” Made Between 1852 and 1854 Here we present an antique Whitney Arms Company Percussion Two Trigger Pocket Revolver, made circa 1852 in New Haven, Connecticut. This revolver was manufactured from 1852 to 1854 with a total quantity of around 600, making this an extremely rare firearm. This five shot revolver, with its hand revolved cylinder and no partitions between the nipples, was designed to evade Colt’s basic revolver patent. The novel feature of this revolver was the forward trigger’s use as a release and lock for the manually turned cylinder. This revolver is the standard model with the brass frame and iron trigger guard. There was also an iron frame version manufactured but is extremely scarce with only 50 being produced. The top of the barrel flat is marked “E. WHITNEY N. HAVEN CT”. The frame has “PATENT APPLIED FOR”. Eli Whitney Jr., began running the family business in 1841. Whitney Jr. seized the opportunity in 1847 to manufacture 1,000 of Samuel Colt’s latest revolver, the Colt Walker revolver. Production of this revolver helped both parties immensely as it kept Colt in business, and it allowed Whitney Jr. to tool up and gain experience making revolvers. With the expiration of Colt’s patents in 1857, Whitney began production of percussion revolvers based on Colt’s patents, some of them very closely copied. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape. A thin hairline crack is present on the left grip. The top strap is also cracked. Markings are legible. Numbers match. Remnants of the etched cylinder remain. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3 inches. Caliber: .32 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos.
