Webley Mk. VI Commercial Revolver with Short Barrel
Description: Serial #452308 / B332, .455 Webley, 4" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a Birmingham proofed, commercial revolver that was manufactured with a short, Mk. V length barrel with integral front sight. The revolver was armory refinished at some point with the frame and barrel retaining 95-97% of an arsenal reblued finish, and the replaced, but correctly proofmarked cylinder having about 75-80% of the original blue remaining and mottled gray metal on the balance. The original serial number was struck on the right side of the frame, and a new number added to the frame and barrel: “B332". The checkered compposite grips are in fine condition with some minor wear and surface marks, as well as some flattening of the points. The lock-up is tight and the revolver functions flawlessly. These “snub-nosed" revolvers were manufactured in the 450000 - 454000 serial number range, partially to fill an order for the Royal Irish Constabulary just before it was dissolved in 1922. The succeeding Garda Siochana retained the revolvers after the establishment of the Irish Free State, and this is possibly one of those guns. Small quantities of these short-barreled revolvers were also sold to the RCMP in the 1930s, and about 200 were sold to the High Commissioner of the Union of South Africa in 1935 (although the latter purchase was confined to revolvers in the 453000 - 454000 range). This is a great opportunity to own one of the rarer versions of the ubiquitous Mk. VI Webley, and rates fine, armory refurbished condition overall.
