RARE Engraved Antique WEBLEY Patent LONGSPUR Five Shot PERCUSSION Revolver
English SECOND MODEL Single Action .42 Caliber
Description: RARE Engraved Antique WEBLEY Patent LONGSPUR Five Shot PERCUSSION Revolver English SECOND MODEL Single Action .42 Caliber Here we present a rare antique Webley Patent “Longspur” Second Model Five-Shot Single Action Revolver manufactured circa 1855 in Birmingham, England. This beautiful revolver was designed by James Webley. He received the patent for his design on March 29, 1853. The grip angle and long hammer spur allowed for a much faster cocking action than a standard single action percussion revolver. He and his brother Philip were the founders of the famous Webley firm that manufactured many of the revolvers used throughout the British Empire in the latter part of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. The “Longspur” revolvers were the first revolvers designed and produced by the firm. Only an estimated 2,000 were manufactured by the end of the decade due to slow production and high costs. This example has beautiful English scrollwork engraving and border designs and a low blade front sight. There are two proofmarks on the bottom of the barrel at the breech, alternating numbers (1 through 5) and London proof marks on the cylinder, and “WEBLEYS/PATENT” on the left side of the frame in a banner. It has checkered grips with the serial number and “BY HER MAJESTY’S ROYAL LETTERS PATENT” on the backstrap, along with a lanyard stud on the butt. The overall condition is fine. Very nice engraving and markings. It wears an old refinish. The action is excellent and strong; it locks up in half-cock for loading and full-cock; the cylinder indexes and locks up well. The bore is in very good condition with nice rifling. The grip is solid. This is a rare and early Webley revolver for your collection. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 4-3/4 inches. Caliber: .42 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $4800 #228544 SOLD Antique: Yes |
