1973 Vintage RARE 4" Smith & Wesson Model 53-2 in .22 Jet Caliber
** Beautiful All-Original Example **
SOLD
Description:
This is a beautiful and rare Smith & Wesson Model 53-2 revolver in .22 Jet with a 4" inch barrel. Manufactured in 1973, this beauty has lived a very easy life and is in excellent condition. The Model 53 was introduced in 1961 and remained in production until 1974. It was a low production gun with less than 15,000 made during the 13 year run. The .22 Jet Model 53 was built on S&W's square-butt "K" target frame, and was offered with a 4", 6", or 8 & 3/8ths" barrel with a six-shot fluted cylinder. The vast majority of the guns made had the 6" or 8 & 3/8ths" barrels, with a very small percentage made with the 4" inch barrel. The Model 53 was sold with 6 nickel wash-coated steel adapters that would allow the user to fire .22LR ammo in the gun, and features two firing pins and a selectable hammer to switch between firing the .22 Jet centerfire ammo or .22LR rimfire ammo in the adapters. The .22 Jet cartridge never really caught on with American shooters and eventually faded into the background along with the guns chambered in it. Today the Smith & Wesson Model 53 is sought-after by collectors as a neat gun that never really caught on. This particular gun features a gloss blue factory finish, a 4" inch barrel with ramped front sight and black adjustable rear sight, and factory checkered target-style grips. The factory gloss blue finish is beautiful and rates 97 to 98%. The only deductions are from a very faint drag-line around the cylinder and a few tiny handling marks visible only under close inspection. The original case colored trigger and hammer are in excellent shape as well, showing nice bright colors all over. The bore in the 4" inch barrel is clean and bright with sharp rifling throughout. There is no visible pitting or imperfections. the six chambers in the cylinder are equally as clean. The original grips on this gun are in like-new condition, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings/dents. The checkering on both grips is clean and crisp, and both grips are tight to the gun with no wiggle. The action on this Smith is smooth and perfectly "in time" whether it is worked in single-action or double-action. All of the controls on this Model 53 are in perfect working order, and this revolver should function 100% like-new. If you have been looking for one of these rare guns for your S&W collection, here is your chance to get an extremely nice and un-molested original example. Sorry, no .22 LR adapters are included with this gun.
