Smith & Wesson K .22 Masterpiece Custom 5-Screw Scarce Pre-War 2nd Model
Description:
A Collector’s Used; Circa 1940-1941; Serial # 675,3XX; Smith & Wesson K .22 Masterpiece 2nd Model; 5-Screw Revolver; 6-Inch Tapered Barrel (so-called “Pencil Barrel”). The scarcity of these revolvers (approximately 1,067 manufactured in 1940-41, according to Fjestad) arises from K-Frames being directed towards wartime production of .38 caliber Victory Models. This one has the Pre-War Windage & Elevation Fine Screw-Adjustable Target Rear Sight that is Rounded, Polished, and Inset into the Topstrap – matching its contour; 1/8-Inch-Wide non-Ramped Partridge Front Sight; Pre-War Single-Line “MADE IN U.S.A.” Address; Large S&W Monogram; Serrated Front- and Backstrap; Barrel marked “SMITH & WESSON” on the Left; “*22 LONG RIFLE CTG*” on the Right; Correct, Narrow, Finely Border-Checkered (Low Spur) Hammer; Frame-Mounted Rimfire Firing Pin; and Narrow Serrated Trigger. The Barrel is Pinned and the Chambers are Recessed with Matching Serial Number on the Rear Cylinder Face. A Raised, Ventilated, Serrated, Custom-Target Rib sits atop the Barrel for its full length – extending from the front edge of the Topstrap to the rear edge of the Pinned Front Sight Base. The add-on rib appears incompletely polished and incompletely blued - and does not look like a King's treatment. The Bore is Bright with Sharp Rifling; and the Chambers are Bright and Shiny. This revolver is in such good condition for its 83+ years of age that we wondered whether it was reblued – but concluded probably not. It shows small scratches and blemishes that are visible on close inspection; there is a cylinder line; and it has a nick in the right front edge of the front sight. Other finish characteristics are shown in the photos, although we think it looks better in-person. Grips are Standard S&W Monogram Magna Shape with Diamond-Border Screw Escutcheons, and are not numbered; they may not be original to this revolver. Not being dealers or experts, and given the addition of the barrel rib, we leave condition estimates to the viewer’s eye – based on the photos. Please ask any questions or request additional information before purchase as this item will be troublesome and costly to return owing to CA re-registration and other regulations. Any refunds will be minus our actual shipping cost and FFL fees (greater than $150) after buyer pays return shipping. The listed price Includes Insured Air Shipping from a CA FFL Dealer to yours. Payment is by Money Order, Bank (Certified) Check or Personal Check (held 2-3 days). We are the Estate Executor and Trustee, not a dealer, and cannot handle credit card or electronic payments. This item is subject to prior sale.
