Here is a Smith & Wesson New Model 3 in 44 Russian shipped to Japan Oct 4th, 1890. It has the Japanese anchor mark on the bottom of the frame by the serial number. The numbers match on the latch, cylinder, and barrel but are different from the frame. These parts with serial number 33607 were shipped Sept 1st, 1898. This is common on these Japanese guns to take the best parts of different guns and reissue them.
It was the either captured or surrendered to the Chinese army at some point. The Markings on the side plate were added sometime between 1925 and 1949. It is also marked INTERARMS from being imported from Taiwan during the 1970's
