Smith & Wesson K .22 – Model 17 Masterpiece 4-Screw 1958 Transition Target Revolver
Description:
A Collector’s Used; Circa 1958; Serial # K 326,5XX; Smith & Wesson; 4-Screw; .22 Target Revolver; 6-Inch Non-Tapered Heavy Barrel; Solid, Wide Serrated Rib, Windage & Elevation Click-Adjustable Target Rear Sight; 1/8-Inch-Wide Ramped, Non-Pinned Partridge Front Sight; Four-Line Address; Large S&W Monogram; Serrated Front- and Backstrap. The barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON” on the Left; “*22 LONG RIFLE CTG*” on the Right. The 1958 Serial Number (per Supica) indicates this gun was made after S&W started adding Model Numbers to the Cylinder Yoke and Frame in 1957; making this a Model-17 that has No Visible Model Number Markings – but it does have Model-17 features, such as the Non-Tapered Barrel, Medium Width, Deeply Checkered Target Hammer. It has the traditional .22 Masterpiece features carried over: Frame-Mounted Rimfire Firing Pin; Serrated Trigger (with unmarked trigger shoe); Frame-Mounted (fixed) Trigger Stop. The Barrel is Pinned and the Chambers are Recessed; but the Cylinder is Not Serial Numbered. The gun has been fired, yet still looks nearly as-new – including the Bore and Chambers. Some bluing wear shows on each side of the barrel at the muzzle; a light cylinder line is present; and a streak of bluing loss on the inside of the frame along the rear track of the ejector rod pin. The Front Face of the Cylinder shows Minimal to Zero Wear to our eyes. As described in reference works, the unusual transverse hole through the bottom strap (behind the grip locator pin) indicates this K-size frame was configured for a lanyard loop before it’s selection as a rimfire-target model. The Original, Diamond-Escutcheon, Panel-Checkered Monogram Grips have the serial number inside the Right Panel (highlighted with crayon). Not being dealers or experts, we estimate this revolver at approximately 98 Percent Original Modern Condition with viewers able to judge by the photos. Please ask any questions or request additional information before purchase as this item will be troublesome and costly to return owing to CA re-registration and other regulations. Any refunds will be minus our actual shipping cost and FFL fees (greater than $150) after buyer pays return shipping. The listed price Includes Insured Air Shipping from a CA FFL Dealer to yours. Payment is by Money Order, Bank (Certified) Check or Personal Check (held 2-3 days). We are the Estate Executor and Trustee, not a dealer, and cannot handle credit card or electronic payments.
