1969 Vintage Smith & Wesson Model 60 Stainless Chiefs Special .38 Spl. Revolver w/ Original Box, Manual, Etc.
* Excellent Condition & Complete! *SOLD
Description:
This is a 1969-production Smith & Wesson Model 60 Stainless Chief's Special revolver in .38 Special. This very lightly-used and well-preserved beauty comes complete with everything it shipped from the factory with including the original box (with serial-numbered end-label), the owner's manual, the warranty card (blank), assorted S&W pamphlets, the factory cleaning rod and brush, and even the anti-rust shipping paper. The Stainless steel Model 60 Chief's Special was introduced in 1965 as a more durable and weather-proof version of the original Model 36 Chief's Special. As you can imagine, it was a great success for Smith & Wesson. The Model 60 remained in production for 31 years until being discontinued in 1996, with the model having gone thru an amazing 18 engineering changes during it's production run. This particular example is a no-dash Model 60, made in the 4th year of production before any engineering changes were made. This J-frame round-butt Chief's Special features Stainless steel construction, an alloy hammer and trigger, a pinned 2" inch barrel, fixed iron sights, a 5-shot fluted cylinder, and checkered Walnut grips. It is 100% original and has not been altered in any way, including the original grips which are numbered to the gun. The Stainless steel is still bright and clean, rating 96% with the only deductions from some very minor box wear/handling marks, a very faint drag-line around the cylinder, and some light flash "halos" on the face of the cylinder (which could be polished off easily). The bore is superb, with sharp lands and grooves still showing in the rifling and zero visible imperfections or erosion. The 5 chambers of the cylinder are equally as clean and bright. The alloy trigger and hammer are in excellent condition and rate 99% with no visible wear, damage, or staining of any kind. The factory grips are also in excellent condition, free from any cracks, chips, scratches, repairs, or major damage of any kind. The checkered panels are crisp and clean, and both grip panels have excellent S&W medallions. The action on this Stainless steel Chief's Special is smooth, precise, and perfectly "in time" whether it is being operated in single-action or double-action, fast or slow. The cylinder lock-up is perfect, with ZERO felt play or wiggle in it at full-lock. All of the controls on this Smith are 100% in perfect working order. This Model 60 has not even begun to be broken-in yet. If you have been looking for a handsome and all-original Model 60 Stainless Chief's Special for your collection here is your chance to get a top-quality example that is as complete as it could possibly be. It would be extremely hard to upgrade from this revolver in any respect.
