The S&W Model 681 was manufactured from 1980 to 1992. They were built on the, new for 1980, "L" frame, were fitted with a 4 inch under lug barrel, constructed of stainless steel, and were chambered in .357 Magnum. This Model 681 is as described and is stamped "TPD 545" on the left side of the frame, below the cylinder. What police deptartment, we do not know. It is in very fine condition, with asssorted handling scuffs and marks, plus the front sight has been filed down, apparently to shoot to point of aim. It does not have the original grips, instead is fitted with time period Pachmayr "Gripper" wrap around checkered rubber grips. The bore is bright, with sharp rifling, and the action is very smooth.
