These came out just after the "Registered Magnum" which came out in 1935 and those guns had with them a card which could be filled out and sent back to Smith & Wesson. When the card was received by Smith & Wesson, Douglas Wesson would then personally sign and mail back a certificate effectively "Registering" the pistol. This Pre 27 is the rarer 3 1/2" barrel, factory nickel that has not been polished. Grips are later and very cheap replacements, price adjusted accordingly, and there is a light drag line on the cylinder. .25 wide grooved trigger with good case color, .40 wide chequered hammer with strong case color, the chequering on top of the frame is unmarred, front and rear sights are blued with good blue, the sight screws are clean and do not look to have ever been adjusted, the front sight is pinned with two pins.
