The Model 29 Silhouette was intended to allow Smith & Wesson to break in on the silhouette shooting market, a market dominated at the time by Ruger revolvers. The attempt ultimately failed as the Model 29 good not stand to the diet of heavy loads the Ruger revolvers could handle with ease. The Silhouette was introduced as part of the “Dash-3” line. This was the first variation of the 29 to feature a non-pinned barrel. Other features that come with this revolver include the legendary 10-5/8 long barrel, square butt frame, .400-inch serrated target trigger, .500-inch target hammer, adjustable four position front sight, and tall black rear sight blade with a narrow and deep notch.
