1971 Smith & Wesson Model 17-3 K-22 Masterpiece w/ Target Hammer & Trigger

Description:
For sale, a very nice Smith & Wesson Model 17-3 otherwise known as the K-22 Masterpiece.  This K-frame based example has a 6 inch barrel with a target hammer and a target trigger.  It is serial number 3K27070, making its date of manufacture as 1971.  This .22 rimfire model from Smith & Wesson went thru 5 engineering changes during it's original production run; this is a 3rd change variation.  It is a 6 shot revolver that functions single or double action.  It has an adjustable rear sight for both elevation and windage.  The original S&W factory high polish blue finish is in good shape overall.  It does have some handling/carry marks here and there, a faint drag line around the cylinder, and there are some small areas that have been allowed to rust that have caused slight discoloration and some very light pitting.  This is all visible in the pictures and as you can see, these issues detract very little from the revolver's attractive appearance.  This Model 17 appears to have been shot very, very little.  Mechanically it is in excellent shape. It doesnt show any evidence on the front of the cylinder or the barrel's forcing cone of having any lead or powder build up, nor does it look like it has been heavily cleaned, buffed, or polished off.  The factory Walnut grips are in very good condition.  The checkering is still sharp and well defined with only very small handling marks.  The S&W medallions are clean, and the grips are fitted nice and tight to the frame.  We suspect that this S&W Model 17 was sometimes carried, but very rarely fired.  This S&W Model 17-3 would make a great shooter or sidearm in the woods because while it is still being good enough condition-wise to have investment value, it's not too good to shoot.
