Scarce S&W .38 M&P Model of 1905 Revolver with Unmarked Sideplate
Description:
Serial #284831, .38 Special, 6" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has a small amount of freckling within the grooves at the breech.
This revolver has the scarce round-butt frame, and is also fitted with the seldom seen, unmarked sideplate (devoid of the usual S&W monogram stamp).
The frame, barrel, cylinder, yoke, and extractor have matching numbers, while the metal retains 80-85% of the original blue finish that has silvered along the sides of the barrel, along the high edges, and also exhibits linear scratches on the sideplate, and one of the cylinder chambers.
Additionally, there are some small impact marks on the edges of the cylinder flutes, and about 50-60% of the muted color case-hardening remains on the hammer and trigger.
The checkered, diamond-center S&W grips are original, numbered to the gun on the interior, and the light-moderate wear on either panel with some minor flattening of the points, heaviest at the butt on either side.
The lock-up is tight, and the action functions flawlessly.
This is a very good-near fine condition example of a hard to find M&P variant.
