Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 Top Break Revolver cal. 44 S&W Russian 6.5”
Description: This is a nice New Model No. 3 chambered for the old west classic 44 S&W Russian round. The New Model No. 3 was a development of the Third Model Russian (aka No. 3 Russian 3rd Model) top break revolver. It was catalogued from 1878 to 1908. According to the Standard Catalogue of Smith & Wesson, 4th Edition, around 35,796 were produced. This one features the standard 6.5-inch barrel, fixed sights, and wooden grips. The barrel and latch do not match the serial number on the frame. The frame’s serial number indicates it was produced between 1883 and 1890, while the barrel and frame left the factory between 1896 and 1907. It appears the No. 3 was refinished at some point given the nickel plating on the hammer, trigger, and trigger guard. Smith & Wesson did not usually plate those three parts with nickel. The same is true for the hammer and trigger of Smith & Wesson’s later hand ejector models (Models 10, 14, 17, 25, 29, etc…). The plating shows some wear as is shown in the pictures. The bore is in exceptional condition and the No.3 is mechanically sound. Given the 44 Russian round’s famous accuracy, this No.3 would make a good target shooter.
