Original Antique 1875 Remington .44-40 Mexican Revolution no FFL
SALE PENDING
Description: This is an antique Remington Model 1875 chambered in .44-40. It came from an old collection that had a number of antique Colts and Remingtons that appear to have seen hard usage during the Mexican Revolution circa 1910 to the end of 1817. There were more than a million casualties in both northern Mexico, where Pancho Villa ruled for some time, and southern Mexico where Zapata ruled. This was a viciously fought war and many 19th century pistols and rifles made their way into Mexico. Those guns suffered abuse and neglect and are not often seen these days. They were exposed to the elements for months and even years. This particular pistol certainly saw its share of war and subsequent neglect. All the parts seem to be there, and I believe it could be made into a shooter. It indexes with sharp clicks and has a safety notch, and both half and full cock notches but the firing pin does not fit the hole in the frame properly. The cylinder doesn’t always hold and the hand and stops do not function properly. The ejector is present but loose. In as much as the literacy rate was quite low during the war, and Model 1875 Remingtons were scarcely seen, someone scratched 44 W on the side of the barrel flange so as to let other soldiers know what caliber ammo to use. The overall surface shows corrosion as do nearly all of the surviving antique pistols used in that war. This is an extremely scarce Remington and is seldomly seen for sale in any condition. The markings are nearly all obliterated. The grips are quite good, and the lanyard ring is still present. I am not selling this antique gun as shootable, but it could be cleaned and restored to good mechanical function as a collector's item. Mfg between 1875 and 1889 and was a black powder only pistol. FFL is not necessary, but will only be sold to a buyer in a jurisdiction where it is legal to own. Please email any questions. Thank you. N.B. In closer review of this pistol, it will actually index and lock up some of the times when it is cocked. I am not a gunsmith, but it appears that If the firing pin was a bit thinner or the firing pin hole on the frame was a bit wider, it would likely cock and fire. It would still need some work to make it properly functional. A buyer should have a competent gunsmith inspect it before any attempted use. Thank you. Price: POR Antique: Yes Contact Seller |
