“WESTERN” Marked Remington NEW MODEL ARMY Revolver
Description: “WESTERN” Marked Remington NEW MODEL ARMY Revolver Circa 1869 .44 Caliber Percussion Revolver Here we present an antique Remington New Model Army Revolver, made circa 1869. The Remington Army Revolver was Colt’s biggest competition for military contracts during the American Civil War. Colt kept his top spot with his Model 1860 Army but Remington was certainly in the running and took the second spot for handguns fielded in the war. These would have been issued to cavalrymen and officers and others purchased them privately. The design was a bit more robust than Colt’s, having the solid frame with a top strap. The Remington Army went on to be used after the Civil War and on into the Indian Wars of the West. The top of the barrel is marked “PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858/E. REMINGTON & SONS ILION, NEW YORK U.S.A./NEW-MODEL”. The left side of the barrel is marked “WESTERN”. There are small, single letter government inspection marks throughout. The overall condition is near fine. The metal surfaces bear about 25% of the original blue finish with a dark plum patina making up the balance. The markings are clear and legible. The walnut grips are in great shape. The bore is very good with strong rifling and semi-bright under a layer of dust. The action on this revolver is excellent. Here is a must have for anyone collecting Civil War, Indians Wars, or Old West firearms! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 8 inches. Caliber: .44 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2600 #7015 SOLD Antique: Yes |
