GERMAN Proofed FOLDING TRIGGER Pinfire Revolver
Description: GERMAN Proofed FOLDING TRIGGER Pinfire Revolver 7.65mm European Handgun Made Circa 1860s Here we present an antique German Folding Trigger Pinfire Revolver, made circa 1865. This double action revolver was designed to be a relatively small self-defense revolver to fit inside a jacket pocket in 19th Century Europe. It utilized 7.65mm (about .30 caliber) pinfire cartridges. The trigger folds up and out of the way to take up less space in a pocket. The pinfire cartridge was one of the very first successful metallic, self-contained cartridges in history. It was invented in Paris by Frenchman Casimir Lefaucheux, and he was granted a patent in the mid-1830s. This predates the invention of rimfire by about 10 years. Aside from being first, the pinfire cartridge was not primed on the back of the cartridge, but had a pin (basically a firing pin) projecting out of the side of the cartridge. Thus the revolvers made for this early cartridge had flat hammers that struck the cylinder and cartridge from the top, as the pin would project out of a small hole in the cylinder. The first revolver to shoot these ingenious cartridges was Casimir’s son Eugene Gabriel Lefaucheux in 1854. The design was hugely successful and many European militaries adopted them. The design was also licensed to be made many firms, especially in Belgium, but many were also made in France, Spain and Germany. The North & South also purchased up to 14,000 of them during the crisis of the American Civil War. This example features a birds head grip, an octagonal barrel and both double and single action capability. The cylinder, barrel and frame bear German “Crown/U” proof marks. The overall condition is very good. The original nickel finish is about 30%. Markings are clear and legible. The grips are solid. The bore is very good and the action is functional. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3-1/4 inches in length. Caliber: 7.65mm Pinfire Bore is in very good condition. The firing mechanism is functional. Overall condition as seen in photos. Here is a fantastic late 19th Century European revolver! Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
