World War II BRITISH ENFIELD No. 2 Mark I* .38 DOUBLE ACTION Revolver C&R
WW II Made circa 1942 at Enfield, England!
Description: World War II BRITISH ENFIELD No. 2 Mark I* .38 DOUBLE ACTION Revolver C&R WW II Made circa 1942 at Enfield, England! Here we present a C&R Enfield No. 2 Mark I* Revolver made in 1942 in Enfield, England. The Enfield No. 2 is a British top-break revolver using the .38/200 round manufactured from 1930 to 1957. It was the standard British/Commonwealth sidearm in the Second World War, alongside the Webley Mk IV and Smith & Wesson Victory Model revolvers chambered in the same caliber. Originally adopted by the British Army in 1931 as the Enfield No.2 Mk.1, the design was first changed in 1938 to be double-action only with a spur-less hammer and was called the No.2 Mk.1*, then changed again in 1942 for the final time with some simplifications for faster production and called the No.2 Mk.1**. It was simplified in order to increase production during wartime. It was based on Webley & Scott’s Mark IV revolver in .38 S&W, which Enfield modified and produced as their No. 2 MK I. Much to their dismay, Webley & Scott developed and built their Webley Mk IV revolver and presented it to the British Government for adoption. Rather than adopting it, the British authorities took the design to the Government-run Royal Small Arms Factory at Enfield, and the Enfield factory came up with a revolver that was very similar to the Webley Mk IV .38, but internally slightly different. The Enfield-designed pistol was quickly accepted under the designation "Revolver, No 2 Mk I", which was a single/double action with a hammer spur, and was adopted in 1931, followed in 1938 by the Mk I* (lightened trigger pull, spurless hammer, double-action only), and finally the Mk I** (simplified for wartime production) late in 1942. The overall condition is fine. Original finish. Excellent action. The bore is shiny bright with strong rifling. Soldi grips. Markings are legible. Numbers match. “DI/*” is marked on the right frame.
