**1921** French Mle 1892 Lebel Revolver 8mm SOLD

Description:
The Mle 1892 revolver is a double-action solid-frame design, with chambers being accessed by swinging out the cylinder to the right. The right-hand gate loading was choosen for the ease of use when reloading on horseback. Originally the Mle 1892 was chambered for an 8mm black-powder cartridge closely resembling the .32-20 WCF round, later models issued during World War I and thereafter fired the same 8mm cartridge loaded with smokeless powder. However, even loaded with smokless powder the cartridge was barely able to achieve similar balistics to the Colt .32 acp. This eventually led to the French military adoption of the .32 caliber "Ruby" semi-automatic pistol. Though it was originally designed to serve as a commissioned officer's personal sidearm, over 350,000 Modèle 1892 revolvers were manufactured between 1892 and 1924 and remained in service till replacment in the 1960s. It was issued in the French Army, Navy, and Gendarmerie, amongst others. This Mle 1892 is in excellent condition with a very tight action and a bright bore. The original finish is 95% plus and the hammer, trigger and loading gate have a nice straw color. The two piece grips are oiled walnut and fit perfectly to the frame. This is a very nice example Mle 1892 and would be a excellent addition to a WW1 or WW2 collection.
