***SOLD*** Swedish Contract Belgian-Made Model 1887 Brevet Nagant Revolver in 7.5mm Nagant Caliber
** Beautiful & All-Original Example **
Description: This is a beautiful all-original Belgian-made Model 1887 Brevet Nagant revolver in 7.5mm Nagant caliber for the Swedish Military contract. A Swedish Military Arms Commission formed in 1884 to study the military weapons that were currently in service. They primarily were focused on reducing the caliber of the rifles in service but also seeked to find a new service revolver, as the current options available to officers were ancient even by the standards of 1884. Among the revolvers tested the commission liked the Swiss Model 1882 revolver in 7.5mm and the Norwegian Model 1883 Nagant in 9mm. It was decided to combine the two, using the excellent Nagant revolver design but the high-velocity and flat-shooting Swiss 7.5mm revolver cartridge. The commission hired the Em & L Nagant company in Belgium to build the new weapon which would be designated the Model 1887 Brevet Nagant. This double-action/single-action revolver was very well made with expert craftsmanship. It featured a high-polished gloss blue finish, fire-blued/strawed small parts, a 6-shot oval-fluted cylinder, a 4.5" inch octagon barrel, a rebounding hammer with a cone-shaped firing pin, a right side flip-down loading gate, a pivoting sleeve on the barrel that housed the ejector rod, fixed iron sights, and rounded grip frame with 3-piece checkered European Walnut grip panels. The design is very easily stripped, the parts are lettered "A" thru "G" for order of take-down. The screw on the right side of the frame with the stamped "A" above it is removed and then the pistol can be split into two parts, with all of the action parts remaining in the right side of the gun. Also interesting, the grip panels are held on by screws from the inside out rather than the tradional way, and from the outside it looks like 4 individual grip panels but is really 3 pieces of wood. The attention to detail in these revolvers is amazing. In addition to the disassembly letters, almost every single part is numbered with the serial number, including the grips. The fit between the two "halves" of the revolver is so perfectly sized that the seam between them is nearly invisible, VERY impressive. The Model 1887 Nagant would go on to serve the Swedish Military a very long time with the Swedish Landstorm Amry units armed with the revolver in World War 1 and even during WW2 it was carried by some local defense forces. This particular example is serial number 2083 of the total production from Belgium of 2600 revolvers delivered to the Swedish Military in 1887. As you can see from the pictures, it is in remarkable condition for a military-issued revolver that is 135 years old and saw potential use in two world wars. The original factory finishes show only minor wear and some scattered handling marks/scratches. The gloss blue is still bright and shiny. The fire blued and strawed small parts are also still in beautiful condition, showing color ranging from light bright blue to a golden yellow straw. This finish is a result of direct heat applied to these parts at different temperatures to create this beautiful finish. All of the original factory markings are crisp, clean, and 100% legible. The Swedish Military inspector's initials of "CL" are just as perfect on the left side of the frame, just ahead of the cylinder and below the "Brevet Nagant" and serial number stamps. This was the mark of Captain Christoffer Lemchen and signified that this revolver was accepted into Swedish Military service. The original checkered Walnut grip panels are in excellent condition, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major wear/marring. The checkering is very fine and in excellent condition on every section. The internals and bore of this revolver are in spectacular condition, showing little to no mechanical or finish wear. The bore is mirror-bright with sharp, like-new rifling from the forcing cone to the crown of the muzzle. The action is slick, smooth, and perfectly "in time" no matter how the gun is operated. At full-lock with the trigger depressed the cylinder is rock solid with no felt play. This Model 1887 Nagant would still function just as well today as the day it left the factory! If you have been looking for a neat all-original military revolver for your collection this Swedish Contract Model 1887 Brevet Nagant would be an excellent choice. You would be very hard-pressed to find one in better condition than this one, and the engineering and build quality is truly exceptional for a revolver 135 years old! As an antique, this can be shipped directly to your home, no FFL needed.
