Description: HOPKINS & ALLEN XL Double Action .22 Cal. Rimfire C&R SELF DEFENSE Revolver 20th Century Conceal and Carry .22 Caliber Rimfire Here we present a Hopkins & Allen XL Double Action Revolver in .22 rimfire, made in Norwich, Connecticut circa the early 20th Century. Hopkins & Allen made the XL line from 1876 to 1907. Hopkins & Allen Manufacturing Company was a major manufacturer of rifles, shotguns, and inexpensive cartridge handguns between 1868 and 1915. After an initial investment of $2000, Hopkins & Allen began operations as a producer of firearms, machinery, tools, and hardware. After the expiration of the Rollin White Patent in 1869, they began converting their percussion revolvers to accept cartridge ammunition. In addition, they started producing a line of spur-trigger cartridge revolvers in .22 and .32 calibers. From its humble beginnings, Hopkins and Allen had grown from a small shop with 30 employees to become a major producer of firearms and an employer of 600 workers. In a state known for firearm production, Hopkins & Allen ranked third only behind Colt and Winchester. Hopkins & Allen continued to manufacture a variety of revolvers and small arms until 1915. The revolver was a small, sturdy, well-built self-defense weapon, ideal for conceal and carry in the closing years of the tumultuous 19th Century continuing into the years leading up to the 1930s. With 7 shots and modest size, it would have been handy for concealed carry protection in the turbulent Roaring Twenties! The overall condition is fine. Original finish. Both grips are in good shape with light handling. Legible markings. The action functions in both single and double but does not lock up. Good bore, remains clear and semi-bright.
